Aloha Rick and Kathy,
Our Kauai honeymoon was amazing, and your condo helped make it that way. We admired the woodwork and all that you've done to the unit. I probably looked at 60 units on the island, before we decided on yours, and if we had to do it all over again, we wouldn't changed anything!
We were able to see most everything we wanted to on the island, (including a few chickens ) partially due to the great location of your condo on the south side!
Being January, we were able to see the sun rise in morning, and set in the evening from the balcony, and it was a special treat to watch the turtles in the water below with our morning coffee!
We also appreciated all of the little things, like having a corkscrew in the kitchen, and a cooler and beach chairs on the patio for our use.
You truly have a beautiful place and we were blessed to spend a week in it!
~ Bill and Judy Fisher
Hi Rick and Kathy,
Wow, 316 is some swell condo! It was quite a shock when we had to move downstairs to 216. The only suggestion I'd make is that you have a pair of binoculars available for watching the ocean action. We had a fantastic time in Kauai. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your gorgeous condominium!
We had a great time celebrating our 20 year wedding anniversary in your condo! The location is perfect and the unit is as beautiful as your pictures portray. Plus, you must have an excellent cleaner as the place was SPOTLESS! I'm picky, and you get a 10 from me.
~ Nancy Thomas
I could tell by your photos and all the research I did about other units that your #316 was going to be amazing.
When we opened the door it was so nice to feel all my efforts to find the ultimate condo was worth it. Attention to major detail was seen everywhere.
We especially loved every light in the condo is on a dimmer switch. So, nice to have soft light. We have dimmers in all our home as well so we felt right at home.
You did a great job remodeling this unit into a high end home! Oh, and thank you for the surprise bottle of champagne in the frig with two glasses next to it.
What a nice, classy touch. Little things like that go far!!!
~ Marla McCray
Rick and Kathy,
Many thanks for the prompt turnaround for the deposit.
We want to thank you again for the use of the condo. It is absolutely beautiful. You did a great job on its decor.
Pam and I just loved the view and the sounds of the crashing surf. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing time there.
We've been to the islands 4 times now, and your condo was our favorite place to stay!
We'll definitely keep you in mind for our next trip to Kauai.
Many thanks again!
~ Chris and Pam Rothwell
Rick and Kathy:
Once again, many thanks for the use of #316...........we had an awesome trip..............hate to see it end....one mishap - I broke a small plate one morning while carrying my coffee and Hanalima Bakery cherry turnover and coffee to the lanai.... I surprised Linda with a Hawaiian Wedding Ceremony (Renewal of Wedding Vows for our 16th Anniversary ) at Shipwrecks Beach with flowers/singer/etc.......we left two beach mats with your chairs on the lanai.....we will be back....thanks again.
~ Jim and Linda
Rick and Kathy,
We just wanted to tell you about the great time we had at you condo on Kauai. Of all the time and places we have stayed in Kauai, yours was the BEST!!!.
Not counting the furnishings (which were beautiful) the VIEW was like being on the beach all the time. We never closed the patio door the hole time we were there, we loved listing to the ocean. We hope to be back to Kauai next summer again and we will want to rent you great condo again.
Thank you for giving us the best location we have every had on Kauai.
~ Emil & Judy Poggi
Dear Rick and Kathy,
I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our week in your beautiful condo. Will and I couldn't have had a nicer 30th anniversary.
We loved being back in Kauai after 30 years. We certainly plan to return and stay in your condo again. Hopefully we won't wait too long this time. It was heavenly!!
~ Wendy Muller
Hi Kathy & Rick,
Just a short note to let you know that we are all settled in your wonderful condo at Kuhio Shores -- Everything was just as you described and we have a beautiful view, watching lots of sea turtles and surfers -- what a gorgeous spot ! It was a very easy commute from Lihue and your instructions and access code worked perfectly -- no hitches or complaints.
Thanks also for the chilled bottle of champagne and glasses..what a nice welcoming touch. The week is rapidly speeding away from us and we love listening to the mighty surf. Our trek back to VT starts this Sunday and we should be back on the shores of Lake Champlain on Monday June 7th.
Again, we can't thank you enough for the opportunity to stay in your lovely condo.
~ Rod & Betsy Hayden
The check arrived yesterday, thank you for being so prompt.
We want to thank you for the wonderful experience we had staying in your condo. The place was immaculate and so very comfortable! My husband had misplaced his pocket knife and as he crawled around on the floor looked under the bed he noted that there weren't any dust bunnies. I honestly can't think of one thing that was lacking, right down to the lock code on the door so we weren't constantly fumbling with keys. I needed to keep in contact with work and I really appreciated the WIFI and the desk for my computer. We loved being right on the water watching sea turtles and surfers every day. Your location is so convenient! The weather was a little variable but you are definitely in the sun zone. It was honestly just a guess to stay in the Poipu area but as we traveled the island we knew it was the best decision. We will definitely be back and have recommended your place to a number of friends. I think you might have heard from Mike and Nancy James already.
Again, thank you for your hospitality,
~ Pat Hergert
Thanks so much. We enjoyed our stay in #316 very much. It is so lovely. We felt like we were in a decorator magazine. While we were there, evidently there was some sort of a storm out in the ocean somewhere which caused the waves to be very high. So, needless to say, we enjoyed lots of really amazing surfer watching from the lanai. The condo is beautiful. There were so many different architectural elements and materials! The furnishings are lovely. We loved the building too- easy access, parking, great location. Lots of friendly folks too. It was so nice to walk down and watch the sunset each evening. It was really wonderful to be able to take a short stroll to the snorkel beach! Thanks for letting us know about your other properties too!
~ Carol and Ken Elliott
Thank you Rick and Kathy. We received our deposit and it is in the 'travel account' waiting for the next adventure. We had a fantastic time at your Kauai condo. It was peaceful, quiet, and off the beaten path enough to where we weren't bothered by anyone or anything. Sleeping was easy, cooking was handy, parking a breeze, used the outdoor grill a couple of times, and went snorkeling right outside the door. We plan to go back, and we wouldn't even dream of not heading right back into your unit. Thanks again, and have a great day!
Rick and Kathy
thanks so much for the condo "What a Great Place" Debbie and I enjoyed our stay so much and the condo decor was great. One thing-the screen door has a problem and comes off the slide at the bottom I would suggest a new one or adjustment. Again we had a great time!!!
If you need a reference just let me know and or have them call me.
~ BD and Debbie Bird
Dear Rick & Kathy,
After a wonderful week in your beautiful condo, we leave tomorrow (Jan. 10). When we opened the door that first day your condo took our breath away. The interior decorating is fantastic right down to the beautiful dishes. It is just exquisite. Thank you so much for allowing us to share it. We took very good care of it.
All in all it was a beautiful time and we absolutely love Kauai. Thanks again.
~ Carol Orona
Hi Rick and Kathy,
We're safely back in Boston and I wanted to let you know what a great time we had while visiting Kauai.
Even after reading all the reviews and seeing many pictures of the condo, I was still nervous about whether we'd like it until we actually arrived. But as soon as we opened the door, I knew we'd made the right choice - it was even better than we had hoped. The closeness to the ocean was amazing, and the views were just spectacular. Seeing the surfers right outside, the beautiful sunsets, and hearing the sound of the ocean was just great. We were also really impressed with the condo itself - other units we've rented were cheaply furnished with the bare minimum of decorating touches, but we could see the care and expense you've gone to, and it really makes the unit feel like a home, not an empty shell with no character. I already miss lounging on that great chair next to the lanai. The kitchen was excellent and it was also really nice to use the outside grill.
Apart from the comfort, quality and proximity to the ocean, we also really liked the location of the condo. During our trip, the weather was quite bad on other parts of the island, but it was always sunny and warm at Kuhio Shores. One day we visited Hanalei Bay, Princeville, etc. where there was heavy rain, really strong winds, and very dangerous seas, but when we got back "home" it was beach weather, as was the case every day. The location was also very convenient for touring the different areas all over the island. The local shops and restaurants were all very good too.
One thing that surprised us, even though mentioned in many reviews, was the excellent snorkeling at Kuhio Shores. We have snorkeled in many parts of the Caribbean as well as Bermuda and California, and were really surprised to find probably the best on shore snorkeling we've ever seen right outside the condo. The variety and number of fish in the calm, shallow water at the beach beside the Beach House restaurant (just steps from the door) was terrific, and every time we swam out in front of the building we encountered several friendly giant sea turtles, it was really great !
As far as other activities, we did most of the things everyone does on Kauai - lots of hiking, swimming and touring around, including the doors off helicopter tour (Wow !). We enjoyed everything very much and loved the unspoiled beauty and quiet peace of the island. It is definitely on our list to visit again, and we would absolutely stay at #316, as well as recommend it to anyone.
Two tiny suggestions - a new hairdryer would be good, and a potato masher in the kitchen - I know, who goes to Hawaii and eats mashed potatoes ? But they're a must with steaks on the grill.
Thanks for sharing your lovely condo with us. We'll be back in a few years (our list of places to go is long).
My bride and I stayed in 316 for our honeymoon this past December. We highly, highly, highly recommend this condo! It was recently renovated and it is immaculate. I don't know how one could possibly improve this condo - and we have high expectations. Here's the link:
Best of luck!
Aloha Rick & Kathy,
We had a marvelous time at your condo, enjoying every minute. We were glad we took the 4 pm helicopter ride on Monday, because Hurricane Neki sent a lot of clouds over the island.
We will have plenty of opportunities to brag about the beautiful condo that was ours for a week. Most of our family loves to go to Hawaii, and nobody has a timeshare.
~ Claudio & Nancy Hunger
Hi Rick & Kathy,
We have arrived at your condo, and ....wow... it's even better than the photos!
We both do appreciate beautiful architecture, and every detail was paid attention. we feel very lucky that we are able to spend our time
in Kauai at Kuhio Shores 316.
~ Claudio & Nancy Hunger
Hi Rick & Kathy,
We had an absolutely wonderful time on our vacation. Our first trip to Kauai will be our most memorable vacation to date. Your condo is beautifully decorated, and the view is more than incredible! We loved waking up to the sound of the waves and watching the sunrise. Most evenings (when we were there) we would go sit on the rocks on the beach below and watch the sunset. The Beach House was perfect! It was the perfect setting for our 20th anniversary!
The helicopter tour (without the doors!) was exhilarating, snorkeling was incredible (except when we came across a white-tip shark ten feet away on the north shore), surf lessons exhausting but well worth it, and the hiking awesome with spectacular views. We also loved watching the surfers from the balcony.
Needless to say, the trip of a lifetime.....trying to figure out when we can go back, perhaps taking our 3 children.
Thank you again for making your place available for people to enjoy.
Scott & Robin Vestal
We had a wonderful time. The furnishings in the condo were fantastic. Everything looked exactly like the photos, except the view. It was even better in person!!!
We will be back next summer, and will contact you to stay at your wonderful condo again. We might make it a yearly anniversary place!!
Aloha Rick and Kathy,
My wife Natalie and I just loved our stay at your condo in Kauai. It is a magical place being there so close to the water. We visited some of the resorts on Kauai and while they are definitely nice, none of them can offer rooms with the proximity to the ocean that your condo has. I think our favorite part of the week was just sitting on the balcony and watching the local expert surfers take on the gigantic waves we had last week right in front of the condo (we had major surf advisories last week). And while it was pretty hot last week, we loved Poipu and exploring the other parts of the island. Colleen was extremely nice as well.
Thanks again for being so great to work with and I'll let you know if I don't get the security deposit in a reasonable amount of time.
~ Thomas and Natalie McCall
PS - One small note - we signed the guest book and it was on the bottom half of the last page so you may want to add some more pages or get another guest book for the next set of guests!
Here is my evaluation of my stay in #316.
My husband and I stayed in the Honeymoon Suite for our 40th wedding
anniversary. It was sensational! The sound of the ocean was heard in
the entire condo and that was heaven. The unit is furnished so
beautifully and comfortably that we hated to leave. We loved the
location as well since it is adjacent to a great snorkeling beach. We
decided to make this our annual anniversary trip and cannot wait to
This is a really nice place - fantastic actually. We split our stay in Kauai between two accommodations - we wish now that we had stayed the whole time at Kuhio Shores.
We didn't miss having a pool at all, but the weather was quite cool while we were there. If it had been warmer, we might have. Mind you, the beach is literally steps away from the condo building so you could quickly and easily go for a dip in the ocean if you wanted to hit the water. If you like to snorkel, you'll be happy to hear that there are snorkeling beaches on both sides of the building, and sea turtles swimming around and sleeping under coral heads literally right out from the balcony. I've attached a couple of pictures for you that we took of them there.
The suite itself is really nice. We especially appreciated that there were extra linens available (not so at the other place we stayed) since we were in and out of the water a lot (snorkeling) and washing sunscreen off, etc. The kitchen is fantastic. A huge fridge, micro, etc. Perfect for making your own meals or Mai Tais if you were so inclined. There were all kinds of beach gear out on the lanai too - a cooler, snorkel fins, beach mats. Not sure if that stuff is always there or not, but it was great to have a cooler and beach mats to take on day trips. There's a nice stereo and DVD player too, but you need to bring your own of those along.
You might find this condo a bit pricier than some of the others on the market, but it's worth every penny. The family who was staying in the condo next door asked us all kinds of questions about 316. Theirs was pretty bare-bones in comparison.
Let me know if there's anything else I can tell you about.
Hi Linette and Mark - we are thinking of staying here in November - can you give us your recommendation?
How did you feel not having a pool - or did it matter? How far was a beach and could you walk?
~ Cheryl Bonham
Aloha Rick and Kathy!
Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your beautiful condo in Kauai. The accommodation was exceptional in every respect. We'd be happy to serve as a reference for you to anyone who might like to speak with someone who's stayed there. Having an assortment of spices, condiments and extra's (read: cherries for our mai tai's!) in the fridge was especially appreciated, as were the generous number of fluffy towels and linens...
Unfortunately, the weather during our short time in Kauai was not as good as we'd hoped. It rained pretty much every day we were there, which really got in the way of enjoying the sights and adventures available on the island. We made the best of our stay though and considered ourselves very fortunate to have such great snorkeling available so close to "home". I've attached a couple of pictures we took just off shore from your lanai. Amazing! Feel free to use these on your website if you like.
Kuhio Shores 316 will be on the top of our list for places to stay.
~ Linette and Mark
Hi Guys. Thanx for the info on the Security Deposit. As for our trip...........where do I start? Rick, I called you our first day to tell you how thrilled Susan and I were about Kuhio Shores. Seldom am I speechless but Good Lord, what an exquisite setting. This Condo was everything we though it would be and like nothing we expected. We made 316 our home for the next 11 remarkable days. The weather was WONDERFUL (true, it is always sunny at Poipu) Both of us love to cook and the kitchen was a joy to create daily seafood dishes in. Jenn-Air equipment was a super touch. We only ate Supper on our last day at the Beach House (it was Valentine's Day ). Our biggest decision was which beach to visit for the day. Off we would go in our Sebring convertible(a must) to explore this most wonderful Island. We took a 'copter excursion around the Island and also let HOLO-HOLO charter take us to the Na Pali coast for a sunset sail. The biggest thing was that we were able to RELAX. 316 allowed us to do just that. Sunsets from our lanai were breathtaking to say the least.
We found food shopping was easy as Big Save was just a short jaunt up to Koloa, or into town for Costco.
Thank you Thank you Thank you for allowing us to share your remarkable Condo for the vacation of a lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. The only downside was trying to figure out how to use the surround sound/CD system. Maybe a quick "how to" sheet for the electronics.
Mahalo and Aloha. WE WILL RETURN...............................Bill and Susan du Laney
Rick - Tom here. Margie's getting ready for our next outing.
No problem on staying over. Glad to see you're renting it out and keeping it full.
I honestly don't know how your place could be any nicer! This is a real diamond. We're considering staying here until you have the authorities remove us! We took the ultralight flight along the coast and were amazed at what we could see. A baby humpback feeding on her mom, huge manta rays with 14' wingspans, and large schools of dolphins. I had the pilot get a special photo of the front of your place and can send it if you're interested. Let us know.
Take care and thanks for everything.
~ Tom Lewis
Dear Kathy & Rick,
I received my security deposit today and just wanted to thank you again
for your kindness in letting us stay an extra night. It was a wonderful
stay and the amenities could not be better. Hope to see you again soon.
P.S. Love the big TV in the Kitchen - the barstools are so comfortable, it is a beautiful place.
Rick and Kathy,
We really enjoyed our 10 day honeymoon in Kauai and our 3 night stay in your condo. It was a nice touch to have a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the refrigerator. It helped us get settled! We thought the condo was very modern in its decorating and we loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing and gazing at all the stars (can't see anywhere close to that many stars in VA). It was a great location...close to fine dining, shopping, beaches, sights. We ate at Roy's, The Beach House and Tide pools and all 3 were great but the Beach House was our favorite. We had a table at the front with no obstruction of our view of the ocean. Plus it was nice to be able to walk to dinner instead of drive. The weather didn't cooperate with us the day we went up to the top of Waimea Canyon so we got a postcard to imagine the view we would have had!
We would definitely recommend your place to our friends and would definitely return when we get the chance. We felt that everything we needed was available although we didn't spend much time in the condo...we spent most of our days exploring the south and west sides of the island. Thanks again for sharing your condo with us!
~ Eric and Amanda Moore
Dear Rick and Kathy,
I am almost at a loss for words to describe how wonderful our trip and stay in Kuhio Shores 316 was. In my husband's exact words, "it exceeded my expectations." In fact, he is convinced that there is no better place in Kauai, or even the world that could match the amenities and spectacular view of your condo. What a lovely time we had. You hear the expression "jaw-dropping" but don't personally experience it often. However, that is exactly what happened to both of us, as weary from our long flight, we unlocked the door and were faced with the most spectacular view imaginable. That is a memory etched in our minds forever. We knew from that moment that we were going to have a wonderful time and we did!!
Thank you for the chilled bottle of champagne that you left waiting for us. We sat on our lanai, watching the surfers, enjoying the sunset and toasted our 36th anniversary. . . Kauai was the perfect island for us and because we left some things still on our "to-do" list, we are considering a return trip and would definitely love to stay with you again.
~ Laurel Ostin
PS: We replaced the broken cork screw that we found in the drawer and left it behind for others to enjoy their "sunset" wine on the lanai.
OH, how I wish I were back there right now. . .
Rick and Kathy,
Thank you for the use of your condo..it is beautiful! We walked in and my first thought was "this is the nicest place we've ever stayed!" You did a great job remodeling...attention to detail. We loved it. The location was perfect, we snorkeled in front of the Beach House a few times(also ate there!) The weather was great-we kayaked the Wailua, did a helicopter ride, saw the Waimea Canyon...all amazing. Stayed at the north shore(HBR) the first few nights and hiked the Na Pali, snorkeled Ke`e, Tunnels, Hideaways...our vacation was perfect beyond words. I will recommend your place to everyone i know traveling to this island paradise. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I miss it and wish we were there!!!
~ Lori Florez
Hi Rick: Thanks so much for the email notification of sending the cheque and extra thanks for looking after the dinner.
Yes, the vacation was great and your unit 316 was the best.
As for our experiences, I have to tell you that you were right, it is different from our usual trips to Maui and I could imagine those 2 other islands used to look like Kauai. We are converted and Kauai is the place to be. It was great that the building was so quiet because that was exactly what we were looking for - we were happy that others went to bed early or kept it quiet. I found that the peaceful existence and the lesser traffic was exactly what we needed for a good rest from our work and the cold weather from northern Canada.
We will be back soon and I'd love to find out more about the bonus nights.
Thanks again, Regina Toth
Aloha Rick and Kathy,
I wish someone would have told me how much work all this wedding stuff is! Wow, I am just getting back to everyone's e-mails because we have been doing so much unwrapping, thank yous, etc... It is definitely hard to get back to reality after a week in paradise! And yes, I received your deposit check. Thank you for sending it so quickly. And Thank you for your kind thank you note!
We had such a great time at your condo. It was so comfortable and peaceful (except the workers on the condos down the way for about three of the days). But, that only encouraged us to get out and see the island. We horseback rode (my wife has a horse so I was forced into that one), golfed (she got it on this one), snorkeled with the fish and a turtle (got some cool underwater pics of Tommy the Turtle), and I surfed everyday out in front.
We had a great honeymoon and we are already talking about saving up $ for another vacation there in a couple of years. We will refer people to you if possible. Thank you so much again.
~ The Bakers
I want to thank you for the wonderful vacation rental that you have in Kauai. Your place was awesome, and we can't stop thinking about it. It was one of our best vacations ever, and we didn't want to leave. It was hard hanging up the door key on our way out.
We played a silly game while there...We kept trying to figure out how we would improve on your facility if we owned it. It was tough! We laugh at ourselves now, but all we could come up with is for you to add a retractable clothesline in the shower stall. Now how insignificant is that!!!!??
On a side note, we were glad to see a few condiments left in the refrigerator from past guests. That was really very helpful. Our daughter and her husband are currently renting an apartment in the same building as yours. She commented yesterday on the telephone that the refrigerator was totally clean and they wished it had a few items in it. So I want to say thanks for allowing housekeeping to leave a few things behind. The champagne also was a real nice touch since we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary.
~ Jan and Tom Balcer
Rick and Kathy -- Thanks again for letting us rent your Kuhio Shores condo. We had such a wonderful time, and it was very hard to leave! Sitting on the balcony watching the turtles swim, the surfers surf and the waves crash was just perfect. And we so appreciated all the hard work you put into designing and renovating the condo. The sliding doors everywhere allowed the breezes to cool everything down within 2 seconds after we got back from sightseeing, and my wife especially loved the fact that we could get filtered water (and crushed ice!) directly from the fridge so that we didn't have to buy a ton of bottled water. Just perfect! We had 2 friends come over for dinner one night, and they said the condo was nicer than their honeymoon suite at the Princeville!
My only worry about the condo before we arrived was that it would be difficult to sleep without air conditioning. It took one night to get adjusted (to the temperature as well as the noise of the breezes and waves), but after that we slept great. Again, we had a wonderful time and would recommend your condo to anyone traveling to Kauai.
My wife and I stayed at Kuhio Shores for our honeymoon in January, 2007. We booked our unit, #316, directly with the owners. The unit was beautifully appointed with every modern convenience one could need. It had been recently renovated with stone flooring, a top of the line kitchen, two flat screen televisions, high speed access (you will need a laptop) and other nice amenities. However, what was most impressive was the view from the unit. Unlike other condo complexes in Poipu, Kuhio Shores is right on the ocean. We had wonderful views of the sunset every evening and kept our windows open to hear the ocean for our entire stay. We had a few questions for the owners shortly after we arrived - all were addressed promptly by the owners within the same day. (They own other units in the building and I would recommend renting any unit from them with confidence. ) After spending 8 days in Poipu and 2 days in Princeville, we were convinced that Kuhio Shores was ideal for our honeymoon!
We had the best time in Kauai. We shared a few of our adventures we did in your guest book, but it was incredible. I have never stayed at a place for 10 days where I have felt this comfortable. Your place is amazing and we will be back.
Again, thank you for your time and thoughtfulness. The Book you recommended to us (The Kauai Guidebook) was like our Bible. We carried it everywhere with us and is very very helpful. We hope to see your place again very soon and will pass on your condo information to anyone looking to stay in Kauai.
Hello Rick and Kathy,
We have returned from our wonderful trip and thank you so much for allowing us to use your amazing condo.
This is an unbelievable condo right on the water in Poipu. The location is convenient for both the North and South shores of the island. The condo itself is gorgeous with top of the line bedding, beautiful well-stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances (there was even an ice cream scoop and pizza cutter!), and an incredible view. Everything was top-notch and worth the premium price when compared to similar rooms a the Hyatt and Princeville Hotels. Both Rick and Kathy were extremely accommodating, friendly, and professional throughout the process. To put things in perspective, despite being on such a beautiful island, we actually looked forward to going home in the evenings to enjoy the condo. My wife and I normally stay in 5-star accommodations when we travel, and this was easily one of the best places we have stayed in over the years.
Thanks! The trip was fabulous, as was the condo. You have thought of everything to make your guests comfortable and at home. I honestly can't think of a single thing I would change or add. It is beautifully decorated and appointed. We will be back for sure -- it took me a night to get used to the loud sound of the waves, but once I did, they lulled me to sleep! And the surfing action and sea turtles from the Lanai were a nice touch!
We fell in love with Kauai and, though we enjoyed our stays on Maui and Oahu (first timers to the islands), we now wish we had more time on the Garden Isle. The hiking alone would have kept us entertained for 2 weeks! We loved the Kalalau Trail and hiked that up to the first waterfall (about 8 miles round trip). We used Inter-Island helicopters for an air tour that was dynamite, snorkeled at Tunnels beach (thanks for lending the equipment), and also visited the botanical gardens -- well worth the guided tour. We drove to some great scenic viewpoints of waterfalls and lookouts along the way and had a blast.
I did want to mention to you that we found a black pearl earring in the condo -- I left it on the desk next to the front door in case any of your previous guests (or you) were looking for it. Thanks for your hospitality and thoughtfulness -- we count the days until we can return again to Kauai -- next time for a 2 week stay! Mahalo!
Hi Rick and Kathy, Can't thank you enough for the use of your wonderful condo here at # 316 Kuhio Shores. We have had a great time and everything was first class. We are a bit unsure of the linen situation, so we will just leave all used linens and towels on the unmade bed. I hope that is the standard. One of the best tours that we did was the Movie Tours. Being an ardent Elvis fan, now that may give away my age, I loved seeing all those "sacred" spots that Elvis was actually at, not mentioning the "South Pacific" scenes also. Thanks again so very much....don't know how we'll go to sleep tomorrow night in Boston without the soothing sounds of the surf! Always, Sheila and Kevin Smyth
Rick and Kathy,
We had a fabulous time there in Kauai - the trip of a life time! Your place was just beautiful! My husband is a wood worker (has put in all of the red oak base boards, crown molding, built in furniture, staircase, flooring and more in our home) and really appreciated your work in the condo. We spent a lot of time exploring various beaches but always enjoyed coming back to the condo in the evening to grill fresh fish bought at the Fish Market and watch the sunset. My husband enjoyed the ability to grab his surfboard and take the short walk down the stairs to ride some great waves. While watching the sea turtles from the balcony one late afternoon, we managed to see a few whales spouting in the distance. If I can make one suggestion, having a pair of binoculars at the condo would be a great bonus! Of course, the highlight of the week for me was when my husband surprised me and pulled my wedding gown from 25 years ago from his surfboard bag and had me wear it down to the beach where he arranged a surprise ceremony that included renewing our wedding vows. Very special!!
We will be back!
We ran into a couple staying at the resort who know you from the San Diego area, Rob and Kathy Bernard It ends up that Kathy and I went to the same high school. She graduated two years after me. Small world!
BTW: My husband asked if he could get a more "business" like invoice from you that he can turn into work. If that is possible, please send it to him at this email address:
~ Patty Stewart
Thank you Rick,
We want to thank you for a wonderful stay at your Condo....It is absolutely Beautiful!!!
You have impeccable taste....It was a perfect honeymoon retreat for my daughter and her husband. Next time I'm going to stay there myself......
We have shared the pictures of your condo with everyone and I will highly recommend it to them for any future vacations.
Thank you, again,
We had a wonderful time in your romantic, exotic honeymoon condo #316 at Kuhio Shores! Even though it rained quite a bit, we were content there! We enjoyed the helicopter ride with Jack Harter's. We enjoyed the sunset views at Kuhio and a few whales passing by. We loved Waimea Canyon and the short hike on Pihea Trail overlooking Kalalau Valley. A beautiful island we hope to visit again someday!
We will pass your website onto friends and family interested in Hawaii/California vacations.

Rick and Kathy,
I don't know where to begin other than to say that I'm putting a "FOR SALE" sign in our yard and moving to Hawaii! Your condo was so comfortable, yet so designer and very accommodating. We spent many hours on the balcony, what a view! Clif is a big surfer himself so it was a toss-up between who to watch... surfers...turtles...surfers...turtles. We actually snorkeled beside them, so much fun!
We had such a wonderful anniversary there, Kauai is so beautifully lush especially North Shore although we still prefer to actually stay in Poipu Beach. The Beach House restaurant next to Kuhio Shores was absolutely perfect for our anniversary dinner...mango creme bruille-YUM!
The kayak trip through the rain forest to waterfalls was a fun trip; the chickens shared my lunch, what a trip!
The helicopter tour. I can't even express completely the rush we felt. It was high priority on one of the most exhilarating experiences that we have had. Took our breath away! We are so ready to do everything again in the Hawaiian islands so we might be calling you soon!
The only suggestion in reference to your beautiful condo is to replace the balcony chairs; they are getting a little rusty.
Mahalo for sharing your piece of paradise with us , we shall return!
~ Clif and Lynn Dodd
We are packing up to be out by 11:00 tomorrow. Please let me say again how wonderful this unit has been. Before we came, my wife had some misgivings about paying extra to be right "on the water." But after 11 days here, she wants to reserve the unit for same time next year! Stand by till we figure out the dates that will work for us. While growing up, my wife spent two weeks every summer at her family's beach house on Mission Bay there in San Diego. The sound of the surf here at your unit was music to her ears now that we live in Idaho.

We want to say "Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo" for introducing us to your absolutely EXQUISITE! condo at Kuhio Shores (Unit 316). We had seen the pictures on the website, so we had an inkling of how great it was, but when we opened the door our first night in Kauai, all we could say was "Oh my God, oh my God!" Everything - from the light fixtures, to the furniture, from the wainscoting and molding to the kitchen appliances and bed linens, was of such high quality and so elegant it took our breath away! We enjoyed your beautiful condo for ten days, and we appreciated it so much that we treated it like our own home (I found myself dusting the baseboards!).
We have referred so many people to you already! I think you've been e-mailing with our friend Jeff Eshelman (ToyForks) and have given your website to several of my husband's customers. By the way, Gene will be sending you a self-addressed-stamped envelope; will you please send us a bunch of your business cards? We ourselves will almost certainly be re-booking with you next year. Your remodel has made loyal fans of us!
We may also be in touch regarding your Southern California property, as I (Valerie) am planning a girl's getaway this spring or summer.
Mahalo again - Kauai holds so many special memories for us, and your place in Kuhio Shores has added so many more very memorable ones. We hope to meet you sometime.
Your new friends in Minnesota-

We just returned from our stay at Kuhio Shores. Just about everything is awesome about this place. It was easy to find, parking was easy, pleasant lobby, and then we arrived to our amazing unit. This place is great because of the location alone, but unit #316 has just been remodeled and is incredible. I can't give enough description to how nice this place is. Every detail was considered. From the beautiful kitchen with the complimentary bottle of Champaign chilling for us, to the furnishings, soft linens, comfortable bed, flat screen TV's and more. It was pouring rain our whole vacation, but it didn't seem so bad with such a great place to stay in.
