KUHIO SHORES AT POIPU
11/09/06
Dear Fellow Homeowners,
On Wednesday, November 8, Director Mel Kalechstein and myself attended an informational meeting hosed by the Kukuiula Development Company. The purpose of the meeting was to inform homeowners along Lawai Road of their plans to conduct blasting of a small section of their proposed development in order to loosen buried rock so they may begin construction. Those who rent out their units may want to pass on the contained information to future renters or pass such on to your rental agencies. All pertinent information will also be posted in the main lobby of Kuhio Shores.
The blast area will be a section of land directly 1500 feet north of the Lawai Beach Resort. Kuhio Shores is located approximately 2000 feet from this area. Blasting will begin in December and will last eight weeks. This activity will occur only two to three times a week and detonations will be between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM. We will be advised later of the exact dates and times and this information will be posted at Kuhio Shores. A warning horn or siren will sound prior to each detonation.
According to the engineers, we may feel slight vibrations and loose object may rattle but by the same token we may feel nothing or even hear the blast. They have assured us that all blasting will be very controlled and that all foundations and underground utilities will not be affected nor will they weaken any structure as the blasting is designed to produce vibrations far below what would cause cracks in plaster, etc., even the minute hairline cracks.
Should visitors hear a detonation and not be aware of this information they could rightly be concerned. We will do all we possibly can at Kuhio Shores to make all visitors aware of this activity but feel that visitors should be given a heads-up of what to expect. I will personally monitor this activity and will address any concerns visitors may have.
