KUHIO SHORES AT POIPU
Owners should be aware that a ten year old water heater in one of the Kuhio Shores units sprung a leak and caused damage to the two units below it. It seems like yesterday that we experienced the same problem and conducted a campaign to check the age of water heaters. Actually, it was nine years ago. Many heaters required replacement at that time. Many heaters only eight years old had to be replaced. It is that time again to check the age of your water heater and consider replacing it if it is over eight years old. It may look like it is new but looks can deceive.
Albert has advised that to place a pan under the water heater will not offer leak protection. When a heater springs a leak, it will not only leak the 40 gallons of water contained in it but also all incoming water until the water to the heater is turned off. A pan will overflow after just a few gallons. Also, he stated that a pan full of water would allow the insulation in the heater to soak up water and should it become soaked up to the electrical connection imagine what the results could be.
